Emissions Trading
In essence, emissions trading is a scheme whereby carbon can be traded (purchased and sold) by energy users.
Entry into the scheme necessitates the entrant to contract to a baseline for carbon emissions (generally related to energy usage) and then Carbon is either credited or debited based upon performance against the baseline.
Use more than the baseline and Carbon must be purchased in order to offset the over consumption, use less
and Carbon can be sold on to the market or banked for future years.
Eligibility for emissions trading is currently limited and entry is voluntary. It is anticipated that emissions trading will be come mandatory in the future.
